From the first time I read about actor Jeremy Irons’ Rescued and Restored a 15th-Century Irish Kilcoe Castle in Vanity Fair, I was obsessed. In the midst of a creative crisis, the British actor impulsively purchased Kilcoe Castle, a long-abandoned fortress near the water in Ballydehob. Jeremy and his wife, actress Sinéad Cusack, restored the castle over a five year period.
An avid antique collector since college, Irons filled the castle with gorgeous finds, from art to fabrics to furniture. He bought items from local and international sellers to complete the refurbishment, including: Bedroom pillows and lamps from India, Floor rugs from Morocco, and Quarried stone and timber from England.
Irons has said that he farms a little bit more than he acts, raising Kerry ponies and Galloway cattle. Sign me up…
